Theatre Royal was buzzing with excited children of all ages and their families. I was accompanied by my 8-year-old granddaughter. There’s a backdrop across the stage dripping with ‘blood’ across which a shadowy axe rolls.
It’s 30 years since the first Horrible Histories book by Terry Deary was published which was followed by a TV series and now theatre shows beloved by youngsters the world over.
The show starts with a “hello Brighton!’ from the three performers who play a mulititude of roles and they promise “murder and mayhem”.

From the horrible Henries to the end of evil Elizabeth, we hear the legends (and the lies!) about the torturing Tudors. Find out the fate of Henry’s headless wives and his punch up with the Pope. Meet Bloody Mary and see Ed fall dead in his bed. Survive the Spanish Armada as it sails into the audience!
Using actors and eye-popping 3D special effects, this astounding show is guaranteed to thrill you and your children. Particularly as many youngsters are, at the moment, currently studying the Tudors at their local schools. Historical figures and events come alive on stage and hover at your fingertips!
Don’t forget to pick up your “safety goggles” in the half to ensure that you get the most of the second part of the show. I’ll stay no more!
