A new self-serve wine bar in The Lanes is opening to the public on Monday.
Vagabond Wines opened its doors to press at a preview night at its Duke Street premises last night.
The bar features more than 100 wines in carefully temperature controlled cases, each with a tube connecting to the self pour machines.
They’re grouped into sections such as vibrant reds or aromatic whites, and above each bottle is a sheaf of paper fliers describing each wine – handy if you decide you’d like to buy a bottle and want to remember which one to get.
With so much choice, it can seem a bit overwhelming at first – but sommeliers are on hand to help guide you to the right choice.
And the machines also allow you to buy a small 25ml taster before committing to a small or large glass.
The only wines not in the chilling cabinets are the fizzes, but these can be ordered at the bar, along with a sparkling tea which is a delicious alternative to alcohol free wines.
The range of wines includes several English wines made by Vagabond at its own Urban Winery in London, using grapes grown in vineyards across Sussex and the South East.
The wines are lovingly crafted by winemaker Jose Quintana, who grew up on a farm in Sussex.
Alongside a myriad of wines will be a menu of modern European small plates and sharing dishes, including burrata di Puglia, pil pil prawns, padrón peppers, Ibérico croquetas and hanger steak tagliata.
Set across two floors, the new bar will have space for 79 guests inside, with a further 18 outdoor seats.
Vagabond Brighton officially opens on Monday 2nd November.

May as well drink at home cheaper if it’s self service!
Love the idea, most bar venues have a limited choice, this is more like an extensive wine list and I often don’t want the same drink over and over, my favourite pub has 1 red that I like and variety is the spice of life, 25ml tasters is cool too. Good luck to them.
