Hove nursing home sold

The Pines in Furze Hill in Hove

A Hove nursing home has a new owner after it was bought by a family-run British operator.

Country Court Care has bought the Pines, also known as Gracewell of Hove, in Furze Hill, from Gracewell Healthcare.

The former owner, Gracewell Healthcare, is owned by Sunrise Senior Living, an American multinational corporation.

The Pines made headlines in 2014 when one of its residents, former Hove council leader and mayor Bernie Jordan, staged a “great escape” to join the D-Day 70th anniversary commemorations in Normandy.

On his return, the “runaway D-Day veteran” was made an honorary alderman of Brighton and Hove. He died in December the same year.

The Pines’ new owner said: “Country Court Care, the award-winning national care provider, has announced the acquisition of Gracewell of Hove Nursing Home in Hove.

“The 35-bedroom luxury nursing home, which was previously part of Gracewell Healthcare, is the latest home to become part of the family-orientated Cambridgeshire-based care provider.

“Country Court Care has been established since 1983 and has its headquarters in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

“Their belief is that all older people deserve the best quality of life and this sits at the heart of their family ethos.

“Country Court Care has care homes across the UK. The group has grown exponentially, going from 200 beds to 1,250 beds in just under eight years.

“The acquisition of Gracewell of Hove Nursing Home will take the group’s total number of care facilities to 31.”

Alykhan Kachra, managing director of Country Court Care Group, said: “We are extremely thrilled to have acquired Gracewell of Hove Nursing Home from Gracewell Healthcare, a company whose values fitted very closely with our own.

“I would like to extend our new residents, staff and families a warm welcome to the Country Court Care Family.

“We are all looking forward immensely to integrating them into our group and ensuring we continue to provide the high level of care that Gracewell currently provide.”
