If you’re ever seized by the need for a curry, a jog around the park or you’ve simply been caught short, a new iPhone application may be able to help.
The free AroundMe app, launched by Brighton and Hove City Council, locates council services, tradesmen, pubs and restaurants near you.
Paul Colbran, Brighton & Hove City Council’s head of ICT, said: “This app gives our residents instant mobile access to lots of local information.
“Much of the information is available on the website. However, it’s far more useful to you when you’re out and about.
“As well as council services, there are hundreds of different restaurants, pubs, clubs and places of interest listed in the app.
“This is just the first of many technological improvements we plan to introduce to make communication between the council and residents easier and more convenient.”
This is not the first application to be launched using council information. In October last year, developer and city resident Rick Thom launched the Brighton & Hove Bus Real Time Infoboard, which tells you when the next bus is due at stops around the city using the council’s live travel feeds.
And as you’d expect in Britain’s Silicon Beach, there are a host of other city iPhone applications – telling you where you can find the nearest WiFi hotspot, the next Brighton Fringe Festival show, or a pedestrian friendly route to the pub.
And the Church of Christ the King in the New England quarter was the UK’s first to develop its own iPhone application.
