Brighton and Hove charity targets online shoppers

A Brighton charity has set up a scheme targeting online shoppers.

Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) said that supporters can help the housing and homelessness charity when they shop with their favourite stores and websites.

The scheme is operated through the Give as you Live website and works with the likes of Tesco, John Lewis, Play.com and Amazon.

Each purchase automatically generates a donation to BHT at no cost to shoppers.

Jo Berry, from BHT, said: “This is a really valuable and effective way for people to make a charitable donation.

“With Give as you Live, thousands of brands have signed up to donate a percentage of every purchase people make online to BHT – all at no extra cost to the customer. “Mother’s Day is just around the corner and lots of people will be buying gifts online.

“It only takes two minutes to sign up and choose BHT as your chosen charity and then shoppers can search for their Mother’s Day gifts at popular stores like Cath Kidston, iFlorist and Thorntons. It really is that easy.

“To add to this, throughout March, Give as you Live is donating £5 to BHT for every new user who spends £10 or more.”

Give as you Live estimates that the average shopper will raise £2.10 a month through their online purchases.

BHT offers advice, accommodation and support to vulnerable men and women in Brighton and Hove, Eastbourne and Hastings.

They work with people who may have experienced homelessness, financial and housing insecurity or problems with drugs or alcohol.
