Five-times Paralympic gold medallist Sophie Christiansen visited Brighton on Saturday (9 March) to motivate a group of Brighton Marathon runners.
The equestrian athlete spoke to runners who are taking part in this year’s marathon for local charity Mankind.
Mankind is a Sussex-based charity that supports male victims of sexual abuse.
It is the only charity in the south east of England that offering these services and one of only a handful in the whole of the UK.
Mona Sorensen, Mankind’s Client Services Co-ordinator, said: “We’re delighted to have a visit from such a successful athlete just when the training gets to its toughest point.
“It will be a huge boost for our team.”
Dressage champion Christiansen, 25, was born with cerebral palsy and is an avid campaigner for disabled rights.
She is keen to use her Paralympic success to give others a voice.
“When I found out how little support there is for men out there who have been sexually abused, I wanted to show my own support for the charity,” she said.
It is estimated that one in nine men in the UK have been affected by sexual abuse as a child.
