Man jailed over Hove cannabis farm

Hung Nguyen was jailed after a cannabis factory was found in Wish Road in Hove

A man has been jailed after a cannabis farm was found in a house in Hove last summer.

Hung Nguyen, 39, was sentenced to 18 months in prison by Recorder Tom Nicholson Pratt for being concerned in the production of a class B drug.

Nguyen was arrested after police raided the house opposite Wish Park on Wednesday 13 August and found him hiding in the loft.

Officers also more than 400 cannabis plants being cultivated throughout the house as well as 5kg – or more than 11lb – of cropped cannabis worth about £50,000 alone.

Nguyen was charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis, being concerned in the supply of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges and went on trial at Brighton Crown Court last Wednesday (11 February).

On Friday, a jury convicted him of being concerned in the production of cannabis and acquitted him of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

Sussex Police said: “In August 2025, a man was charged after a cannabis factory was discovered in Hove. Now he’s been jailed.

“A warrant was executed in Wish Road, Hove, on Wednesday 13 August after suspicions regarding the use of the property had been raised.

“Inside the house, almost every room was found full of cannabis plants and growing equipment. It was also identified that the electricity had been dangerously bypassed.

“In total, 437 cannabis plants were found and seized, as well as 5kg of cropped cannabis.

“While conducting room searches, a man was discovered hiding within a plastic lining in the loft.

“He was arrested and, after initially providing an alias, was later identified as 39-year-old Hung Nguyen, of Wish Road, Hove.

“After claiming in interview that he did not know what type of plant he was growing, he was charged with abstracting or using electricity without authority, obstruct or resisting a constable in the execution of his or her duty, being concerned in the production of a class B drug and being concerned in the supply of a controlled class B drug.

“He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 15 August and was remanded in custody ahead of his trial.

“On Wednesday 11 February, Nguyen’s trial began at Brighton Crown Court.

“The jury returned a guilty verdict for the production of a class B drug on Friday 13 February. The remaining offences were left to lie on file.

“Nguyen was sentenced the same day to 18 months in prison.”

Recorder Nicholson Pratt also ordered all the drugs, plants and paraphernalia that had been seized to be forfeit and destroyed.

Nguyen was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.
