Air ambulance responds to medical emergency on Hove seafront

An air ambulance landed on Hove seafront this morning (Sunday 5 April) in response to a medical incident.

The Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) air ambulance landed on the beach at about 9.15am.

According to Sussex Police, the KSS air ambulance crew were called out to deal with a medical emergency.

A man in his fifties, believed to have been out for a run, was later taken to hospital.

In the past week, the KSS air ambulance charity said: “We’re urging people to take extra care as they get out and about over the Easter holiday weekend.

“In 2025, our crews saw a 22 per cent increase in overall activity during the Easter bank holiday.”

The man had collapsed while running on the seafront on Sunday about 8.45 . A few other runners and I stopped to help, and thankfully we were close enough to the leisure centre to use their defibrillator until the paramedics took over. Does anyone have an update on how he’s doing?

Amazing job, James. Honestly, that early intervention will have given him the best possible chance. Be proud. Take some heart as well that he was stabilised enough to be transported to the hospital.

    Hello James
I am that man! First – thank you to you and others who helped for saving my life. I hope we can arrange to meet. Your prompt action and the work of others ensured I received timely professional care and I’m pleased to say I’m doing well and out of hospital.
I’m a local person and try to keep fairly fit and healthy so this came completely out of the blue. You stepped in, did the right thing at the right time and saved a life. Now that is something to treasure! Thank you does not seem enough, so I hope the knowledge you did something amazing will act as a small reward.

    Hi Geoff,

That is absolutely wonderful news! Thanks so much for the reply and the update.

I would definitely be interested in meeting up just as soon as you are well enough.

    All the best James
