Brighton and Hove Albion attacking midfielder Facundo Buonanotte has been loaned to La Liga club Elche for the coming season.
Albion said: “Facundo Buonanotte has joined La Liga side Elche CF (Club de Futbol) on a season-long loan.
“The 21-year-old, who joined Albion from Rosario Central in January 2023, will continue his development in Spain this season.”
Buonanotte, who has played twice for Argentina, will be coached by his countryman Martin Anselmi at Elche, which is about half an hour inland from Alicante, on the Costa Blanca.
Elche ended the season 15th in the table, one point above relegated Mallorca.
Albion sporting director Mike Cave said: “Facundo is a talented young player who has continued to develop since joining the club.
“This loan gives him the opportunity to play regular football in one of Europe’s top leagues.
“We believe this move will provide an excellent environment for him to gain further experience and we’ll continue to monitor his progress closely throughout the season.”
Buonanotte has played more than 40 games for Albion, scoring four goals. He was signed for just over £5 million plus a similar amount in add-ons.
He spent last season on loan with Chelsea, as part of a deal reported to be worth about £2 million, and then Leeds United, having spent the season before at Leicester City.
