Two schoolgirls from Brighton and a boy from Hassocks have been arrested after a woman and a dog were attacked in Newhaven.

Sussex Police said: “Three teenagers have been arrested following an incident in Newhaven High Street on Monday evening (24 August) at around 8pm, during which it was reported a woman was assaulted and a dog was kicked.

“A 16-year-old boy, from Hassocks, and a 17-year-old girl, from Brighton, were both arrested on suspicion of common assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH), causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and theft from a shop. Both have been bailed while inquiries continue.

“A 15-year-old girl, from Brighton, has also been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. She remains in custody at this time.”

Inspector John Adams, from the Lewes Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have taken swift action following this incident and three people have been arrested.

“Our inquiries are continuing as we work to establish the full circumstances of what happened.

“We understand the video circulating on social media may have been concerning for those who have seen it, and we would still ask anyone with information or relevant footage to contact us.”

Sussex Police added: “Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact police online or by calling 101, quoting serial 1438 of 24/08.

“We will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.”
