Crafter works with Pride on special bus tribute

A Brighton bus passenger has spent a whole day’s worth of hours creating a crochet Pride bus.

Crafter Lucy Adams took 24 hours to make the woolly artwork, which she brought to the Conway Street depot to show the drivers who get it around town.

The Pride Bus entered service last year after being developed in partnership with Brighton and Hove Pride, with local residents voting for their favourite design from a shortlist created by Brighton and Hove Buses’ in-house graphic design team.

Lucy said: “I love the design of the bus, and I feel lucky to live in a city that has a Pride bus travelling through it every day. It’s such an important message.

“The project took me around 24 hours in total, spread across several weeks and was completed using a tapestry crochet technique.

“It was my first time trying this style, but I enjoyed it so much that I’ve since created another tapestry of the Martin Fisher Bus. My next project might be the Beach Bus.”

Victoria Garcia, accessibility and communities manager at Brighton and Hove Buses, said: “We’re incredibly proud that the Pride Bus has inspired such a creative tribute. The bus was designed to celebrate the diversity, visibility and sense of belonging that make Brighton and Hove so special, and it’s wonderful to see those values reflected in Lucy’s work.

“Her crochet recreation is a real testament to the connection that people feel, not only with the bus itself, but with what it represents.”
