Suspect sought after sex attack in Brighton yesterday

A woman has reported being sexually assaulted in the early hours of yesterday morning (Friday 9 October).

Sussex Police said: “Police are working to locate the man pictured following a report of a sexual assault in Cheapside, near London Road, Brighton.

“On Friday 9 October at around 2.30am, it was reported that a woman in her twenties was sexually assaulted as she walked uphill in Cheapside.

“The suspect is reported to have approached the woman after walking behind her for some distance.

“A member of the public located the victim and the suspect fled the area on foot in the direction of London Road.

“The man we would like to speak with in connection with inquiries is described as in his mid to late twenties, white, with dark hair and a short blond / brown beard and moustache.

“The victim is being supported by specialist officers as the investigation continues to move at pace.”

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays, the police divisional commander of Brighton and Hove, said: “Sexual violence has no place in Brighton and Hove and we will not tolerate it in any form.

“We take every report of sexual offending extremely seriously and are committed to doing all we can to protect the public, support victims and apprehend those found responsible.

“We encourage anyone who feels unsafe, witnesses suspicious behaviour or has concerns about someone’s actions to make a report to police.”

Sussex Police added: “If you know the whereabouts of the man pictured or have any footage or information that could assist our investigation, we ask you to make a report online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Toronto. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
