A Hove church is holding a special service to mark National Climate Week.
St Peter’s Church, West Blatchington, plans to celebrate “God’s creation” on Thursday (6 March) at 7pm.
The Diocese of Chichester said: “Many in our churches have been environmentally conscious for some years but many still have a long way to go and we can all probably do something different which would help fulfil our responsibility.
“It can be as simple as replacing a blown bulb with an energy-saving type and recycling more.
“There are many resources available and good advice which can be sought.
“It is also important to realise that many environmentally friendly actions can also lead to a financial saving and in this current economic climate has got to be a good message.
“The Diocesan Environmental Action Group has been working on a diocesan environmental policy.
“At the November 2013 Diocesan Synod there was agreement in principle and now the policy is to be presented to the deaneries and to be brought to the November 2014 Diocesan Synod for approval.”
The diocese also quoted from Genesis the first book in the Bible: “God spoke: ‘Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.’
“God created human beings. He created them godlike, reflecting God’s nature. He created them male and female. God blessed them: ‘Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.”
The incumbent at St Peter’s, part of the Church of England, is the Rev David Farey, the diocesan church in society adviser.
The church is on the corner of Hangleton Road, Court Farm Road and Holmes Avenue.
