A Brighton secondary school has won a national award for the outstanding progress made by pupils in their GCSE exams.
The Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) picked up the Educational Outcomes Award from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT).
It is the second year in a row that BACA has won the award.
The Falmer school made it into the top 20 per cent of schools nationally for “value added” – the progress made by students from Key Stage 2 to GCSE.
Vice principal Michael Brett collected the award on behalf of the school at the Educational Outcomes Awards Celebration Evening held in London last Tuesday (6 May).
The school was also nominated to share its strategies for success with other school leaders during a “speed learning” networking session during the evening.
Mr Brett said: “I’m really pleased for all of the teachers and support staff at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy as this is a ringing testament to the great teamwork, passion and determination by everyone involved who wants to see the best outcomes for our students.”
Sue Williamson, chief executive of SSAT, said: “Brighton Aldridge Community Academy should be congratulated for their exceptional achievement.
“They have proven themselves to be leading the field in improving GCSE outcomes for their students.
“There is lots of good practice for the Brighton academy to share with other secondary colleagues.
“The award is testament to the commitment and hard work of the students, teachers and leadership team at Brighton Aldridge Community Academy and demonstrates the impressive progress students are making at this rapidly improving school.”
