Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy rides into Brighton

Olympic cycling champion Sir Chris Hoy visited Brighton today (Tuesday 27 May).

Sir Chris came to Preston Park velodrome to meet fans and ride the circuit with bike enthusiasts of all ages.

Britain’s most successful Olympian, with six gold medals and a silver, was also promoting a new range of children’s bikes.

He was greeted by Brighton and Hove’s cycling champion Councillor Ian Davey, deputy leader of Brighton and Hove City Council.

Councillor Davey said: “It was great to see such a good turnout, particularly of children and young people.

“Sir Chris and other British stars are clearly inspiring a new generation to take up cycling.

“That’s why we must build a safer environment for cycling – with widespread 20mph, segregated cycle lanes and safer junctions. If we do that, the young people Sir Chris inspires will hopefully be using their bikes for a lifetime of sport, exercise and transport.

“Sir Chris was aware of the what we’ve been doing here and told us to keep up the good work.”

It would just have been nice for Sir Chris Hoy’s views rather than just hearing Davey’s version of what Sir Chris said.

For example, would Chris recommend that cyclists should take responsibility for their own safety; to consider other road users; and to obey traffic signs?

Could it be the Davey is putting a green speak spin on this? At least it was good PR for Davey (but not necessarily for Sir Chris) and perhaps Evans will give him a job in 2015?
