A Brighton burger joint has been named the UK’s second best takeaway less than two years after it opened.

Smoque Grill in Islingword Road came second in online ordering platform hungryhouse.co.uk’s top ten restaurants.

The family-run business only opened in May 2013, but has quickly impressed its customers, being named ninth best takeaway last year and climbing to the second spot this year.

Sepand Sarmadi, Founder and Owner or Smoque Grill comments: “It’s been absolutely fantastic. The neighbourhood has been very welcoming and they love their new takeaway.

“We feel that we are contributing to the area because we constantly receive feedback not just about the food, but about how we operate.

“Brighton has a thing about burgers – we love our burgers!”

One happy customer, Hanover resident Carina Garner, said: “I got a take away from there when my smallest was really poorly and wouldn’t be put down long enough for me to cook.

“The delivery lady saw how poorly he was, helped me take the food in and even helped me give my baby medicine to help him breathe! She was lovely – plus, of course, amazing quality burgers.”

And another, Annie Heath, said: “Frankly it is a nightmare that this establishment is at the end of my street, filling my nose with the smell of charcoal grilling and forcing me to spend my money on quality burgers served by lovely people.”

The rankings are based on an algorithm which studies data from the site’s 10,000 restaurant partners and millions of customer reviews.

Smoque Grill climbed up the charts with consistent five star ratings, rave reviews and one of the site’s highest return rates over the last 12 months.

Scott Fletcher, hungryhouse.co.uk CEO comments: “Our customers want to enjoy top quality cuisine in the comfort of their homes, and we know which restaurants keep people coming back for a second helping.

“By sharing that information and showcasing the best takeaways in Britain we can help make people’s food ordering experience even easier and more enjoyable.
