The two university students’ unions in Brighton have been awarded £15,000 by the government to boost voter registration.
Individual voter registration – rather than, as previously, by household – is expected to mean that some students may miss out at the general and local elections in May.
Candice Armah, the University of Brighton Students’ Union president, said: “There are loads of great reasons that students should register to vote but we’re cooking up something that will make it even more irresistible.”
Abraham Baldry, president of the University of Sussex Students’ Union, said: “I’m very excited by what we’re planning to do with this money. We can’t release details just yet but it’s going to involve music and it’s going to be big.”
