Nick Cave on why he moved to Brighton

One of Brighton and Hove’s most famous residents Nick Cave only ended up in the city after following his wife here.

Speaking at the launch of his new book, The Sick Bag Song, at Porchester Hall in London last week, he answered a member of the audience who asked why he had moved to the city.

“For me it suits me really well. To be honest, I often ask myself that question – you know, why Brighton when there’s a lot of possibly more exiciting places to live in the world.

“But I find that I can come back to Brighton and kind of hunker down there and be left alone and do the stuff that I’m happy doing, so it serves me really well a a place to live, at least at the moment.

“I’ll say it wasn’t my idea to move here, it was my wife’s idea, and I just kind of followed her really.

“But I like it. There’s a kind of scene and stuff in Brighton I’m told but I’m not really part of that. I just get in the house, shut the door and get to work really.”

The clip below was filmed by Brighton Nick Cave fan Myfanwy Nixon.
