A new London Road charity shop has modelled itself on the Open Market with vintage clothes, furniture and jewellery stalls.

The Martlets Trading Co was officially opened on Monday afternoon by Brighton and Hove mayor Brian Fitch.

It is now open seven days a week and hopes to also open late one night a week in the future.

Eve Collins, Martlets Head of Retail, said: “This is a really exciting new venture for us, to be in the heart of the up-and-coming London Road area of Brighton is a fantastic opportunity.

“Inspired by the recently renovated London Road Open Market our new shop – Martlets Trading Co – will have a real market feel to it, this will be a charity shop with a difference!

“There’ll be a huge Vintage Me section with clothes, furniture, home ware as well as jewellery and accessories from the 1920s to the 1990s.

“You’ll be able to stock up on furniture large and small, there’ll be a book corner and of course a huge range of clothes for men, women and your little ones.

“We’ve even found a table-football game to keep our customers entertained!”

Martlets Trading Co. will be open seven days a week, and hopes to open late at least once a week in the future.

With such extensive opening hours, the local charity is keen for new volunteers to join their retail team.

Eve added: “We’ve got some fantastic volunteer opportunities here, perfect for boosting your CV with some retail training and customer service experience.

“So if you’d like to learn new skills and support one of the city’s best known charities, we would love to hear from you.”

This will be the Martlet Hospice’s tenth shop, and like the other stores, will be a valuable income source for the Hove hospice.

All the profits raised through Martlets Trading Co. will help the Martlets Hospice provide end of life care to adults who are affected by terminal and life limiting illness, as well as caring for their families and loved ones.

The hospice receives less than a third of their funding from the government and must raise £9,000 a day to help people who are dying to do so with dignity and in as calm and peaceful a way as possible.
