Water performance for Hove school children

One of the Drips meets Tony Janio, Dawn Barnett, Peter Kyle and children from Hangleton Primary School

Hove MP Peter Kyle joined Hangleton school children and two of the area’s councillors to catch the Drips.

The Drips are a fictional family who use mime, masks and comedy to teach children the importance of using water wisely and how to prevent sewer blockages.

They feature in a play – Are You A Drip? – performed by the Facepack Theatre Company and they’ve been touring the Southern Water region for 18 years with their message.

After the play at Hangleton Primary School, Mr Kyle said: “I have been to the Peacehaven treatment works and seen first-hand the trouble caused by wet wipes and other things being flushed away.

“This show is a great opportunity to get that message across to the next generation and to teach them how to use water wisely.

“I’m very pleased that Southern Water is investing in this educational programme and doing it in such an entertaining way.”

Councillor Dawn Barnett was one of the two councillors from Brighton and Hove City Council who attended the show.

She said: “I think it’s a fantastic show – the children loved it and because they were interested and entertained, they will retain a lot of what they have learned.”

Fellow Hangleton and Knoll councillor Tony Janio said: “What a brilliant show – the kids loved it and so did I.”

The Drips show children simple ways to save water at home, such as turning off the tap when brushing their teeth and taking a shower instead of a bath.

They also help explain how children and their parents can help to prevent sewer blockages by not pouring cooking fat, oil and grease down the sink or flushing items like wipes, nappies and cotton buds down the toilet.
