Train trouble prompts police to urge Brighton Pride party-goers to plan their journey home

The police this afternoon urged tens of thousands of Brighton and Hove Pride party-goers to give some thought to how they are going to get home.

The parade route was busy, Preston Park was packed and plenty of people are partying in and around St James’s Street.

But the problems on the trains over the past few months have prompted Sussex Police to make a repeated plea to visitors in particular to plan ahead.

The force said: “We are asking visitors to Brighton and Hove who are here celebrating Pride to plan ahead and allow extra time when leaving the city later tonight in order to get home safely.

“A large number of those attending events are expected to travel home by train and Pride organisers along with partners are asking people to check the available services before setting off.

“Please visit the National Rail Enquiries website for up-to-date departure times www.nationalrail.co.uk.

“It is unlikely that there will be the same level of service operating from Brighton Station as there has been during previous Pride festivals. It is therefore advised to consider alternative means of travel where possible.

“Brighton and Hove Buses continue to run services throughout the city and surrounding areas. Full routes and timetables can be found on their website www.buses.co.uk.
