Homeless man hit by car in Portslade dies

A garden wall was mysteriously demolished in Portslade overnight, with emergency services called to the scene shortly after sunrise this morning (Wednesday 31 August).

Sussex Police said: “A resident of a house in Old Shoreham Road, Portslade, woke just before 6.30am to find that his garden wall had been demolished.

“It is believed that a vehicle caused the damage to the wall and gates but nothing was heard.”

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 6.36am Hove firefighters attended Old Shoreham Road, Portslade. They made the area safe after a wall had been damaged by a car.”

Anyone who saw the wall and gates being destroyed or who has information about the incident is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.

Five days ago the fire service said that it sent a crew to deal with a similar incident in Brighton. It said: “At 7.30am this morning (Friday 26 August) Brighton firefighters were sent to North Road, Brighton, following a road traffic collision which left scaffolding in a dangerous position.

“The crew cordoned off the area to the public until the scaffold contractors arrived.”

Yesterday (Tuesday 30 August) at about 5.30pm a fire engine from Preston Circus and a fire engine from Hove rescued someone stuck in a lift in Ingram Crescent West, Hove.

About an hour later a Hove crew tackled a fire in the garden of a property in Old Shoreham Road, Hove, when a shed and a tree caught light.
