i360 passengers stuck for two and a half hours as pod breaks down

Passengers on the i360 were left suspended for two and a half hours this evening after the pod stopped moving a few feet above the deck.

First go in the @BA_i360 and it stopped about an hour ago and hasn’t moved since! #i360broken ? pic.twitter.com/Iwh33VM0wL

The pod stopped moving shortly after 5pm, and at 6.30pm was still stationary.

One passenger, Tim Jones, said: “It juddered to a halt and we were asked to move to one side. Apparently this is the first time 200 people have been on it and not stood where they thought.”

Passengers reported that they were served champagne while the delay continues.

But with no toilets on board, staff had to find an emergency camping toilet to deal with the consequences.

I think the #i360 has moved a bit. Oh wait, no, that was my camera angle. pic.twitter.com/vf0ovrfbm7

In a moment of unfortunate timing, the i360’s Twitter account tweeted that this is the perfect time of day to enjoy a glass of bubbly from the top.

Great way to end the day – with a a glass of Nyetimber on top of the BAi360. @foragesussex pic.twitter.com/ue0p2ukq3d

It later tweeted:

A slight technical hitch has caused the pod to halt. Our engineers are resolving the problem & expect it to be working normally soon

The pod eventually touched down shortly after 7.30pm.

AVery worrying. I think I’ll give it a few more months before I think about going on it. As rescuing me even from a few feet off the ground would be very difficult in my wheelchair.
