Could you race to the rescue of Brighton’s best-known children’s charity?

Sick children’s charity Rockinghorse is urging people in Brighton and Hove to get in touch with their inner hero for a Super Sunday fun run in a fortnight’s time.

The charity said: “Reveal your inner super hero and take part in Hove’s Super Sunday fun run on Sunday 21 May in aid of Rockinghorse children’s charity.

“Choose between 5km or 10km distances for the heroic fancy dress challenge.”

There is also a one-mile fun run for children from four to eight years old.

The races start from Hove Lawns and head along the seafront promenade west towards Hove Lagoon and back again.

As the event’s official charity partner, participants are being encouraged to take part for Brighton-based Rockinghorse.

The charity is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary and aims to raise £500,000 this year to help 10 children’s centres and paediatric services in Sussex.

Through the Sussex Giving for Sussex Children appeal, Rockinghorse will donate £50,000 to each of the 10 chosen projects.

This will help them to improve, refurbish and develop their environment for the young people benefiting from their work.

David Chapman, Super Sunday event organiser, said: “Rockinghorse was an easy choice for our charity partner.

“I can remember them from my childhood and we couldn’t wait to help them celebrate their 50th year.

“Dress up, have fun and help sick children – at Super Sunday you can be a super hero in more ways than one.”

Rockinghorse events fundraising co-ordinator Hannah Seltzer said: “By taking part in Super Sunday, you can help us ensure children’s services in Sussex are the best they possibly can be for our children now and in the future.

“It’s also a great excuse to become your favourite super hero for a morning!”

The Rockinghorse 50th anniversary double-decker bus will be there on the day, giving spectators the opportunity to view the race from a prime position.

Races start at 10am and all runners will receive a bespoke Super Sunday medal. Registration starts from £8 for the one-mile fun run, rising to £20 for the 10km distance, and a donation from every entry will be made to Rockinghorse.
