Traders to brighten up busy shopping street with planters

Traders and people living in and near a busy shopping street are planning to brighten it up with planters tomorrow (Saturday 23 September).

And they are inviting others to join them as they set to their task transforming the area in and around Boundary Road and Station Road on the border of Hove and Portslade.

The event is due to start at 10am, with about 20 new planters due to be filled with plants that have been donated by the Mayberry Garden Centre.

The planters have been provided by donations from traders and residents and sponsorship money raised by Councillor Robert Nemeth whdn he ran the Brighton Marathon last year. The soil is coming courtesy of City Parks.

The event has been organised by the Blooming Boundary Campaign which was set up last year by Councillor Nemeth and Karen Young to brighten up Boundary Road and Station Road which they felt had been neglected.

More than £4,000 has been raised for the project from generous supporters.

Councillor Nemeth said: “Karen and I have worked tirelessly with traders over the past year to improve our local high street.

“It has taken a lot of work to fundraise and organise everything but we are nearly there.

“I can’t wait to see the new planters lining the street.

“I hope that it will give Boundary Road the impetus to now go from strength to strength.”

Volunteers will be meeting outside Tesco at 10am. Tesco will be providing refreshments, and the Plant Room will be providing hot drinks.
