A firefighter rescued a man from a burning car while the crew tackled the blaze at an incident in Brighton.
Two crews attended, wearing breathing apparatus, and used a hose reel to fight the fire.
They were called to Bevendean after reports of a vehicle on fire, with a person trapped inside, on Wednesday afternoon (30 March) at 2.30pm.
Watch Commander David Washington said: “On arrival crews were faced with a parked car on fire, with one person in the car.
“A man was rescued from the car by a crew member while the others dealt with the fire in the engine compartment.
“Crews used a hose reel and breathing apparatus to bring the fire under control within minutes of arrival.
“The 53-year-old gentlemen was given oxygen and emergency medical care by attending fire and rescue crews for smoke inhalation and a severe cut to the head.
“The ambulance service arrived on scene to help deal with the gentleman and remove him to hospital.”
Crews from Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue were on the scene for two hours.
A fire investigation found that the fire had been started accidentally.
