The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning that heavy rain is on the way, with tomorrow – Easter Monday – forecast to be a washout.
Almost an inch of rain is expected to fall within 24 hours tomorrow (Monday 2 April) although the April showers are predicted to start later this evening.
Wind speeds will rise with gusts topping 30mph, lower than earlier forecasts had suggested.
The heaviest rainfall is expected between midnight and breakfast time, with heavy showers later likely to punctuate lighter showers and patches of drizzle.
Even so, the official forecaster said: “Rain will become heavy and persistent for a time.
“Fifteen to twenty-five millimetres of rain is likely widely.”
Warnings were given about travel conditions, particularly on the roads, and the risk to properties that are vulnerable to flooding.
Heavier rainfall is predicted elsewhere, with sleet or snow in some parts of the country.
The cloud cover should mean that the temperature is a few degrees warmer than this afternoon which is already warmer than this morning and yesterday.
The Windguru website indicates a top daytime temperature of 10 celsius (50 fahrenheit) tomorrow.
With more clouds and rainfall on Tuesday, the temperature should remain steady although in the blustery conditions on Tuesday and Wednesday, it may feel a little cooler.
