The Greens have taken all three seats in Preston Park, beating two sitting Labour councillors Kevin Allen and Juliet McCaffery.
Amy Kennedy will be joined on the council by Mike Jones and Leo Littman.
Returning Green councillor Amy Kennedy said: “I’m over the moon!”
She said that the greens would soften the blow of the cuts being imposed by the Conservative-led coalition government.
She said: “It’s important that we work with the community. We’ve got to talk to people.”
New councillor Leo Littman said: “The thing about consultation is that it has the word consult in it. We really will consult people.”
