A Hove student may be sent to prison when he completes his university final exams after attacking the Prince of Wales’s convoy during a demo in London.
Charlie Gilmour, 21, the son of Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour and the novelist Polly Samson, admitted violent disorder at Kingston Crown Court.
The former Lancing College pupil, who is studying for a history degree at Girton College, Cambridge, is accused of throwing a bin at the convoy of cars on Thursday 9 December.
He also said to have sat on one of the cars and smashed a window, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The bin missed the car carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall but smashed into another car, the court was told.
Gilmour was also photographed hanging from a union flag on the Cenotaph during the student fees protest and his picture appeared on the front of newspapers and on television.
The Cambridge University student, whose family also have a home in Billingshurst, West Sussex, promptly issued an apology.
He said that it was “a moment of idiocy” and he had not realised that the Cenotaph, in Whitehall, was a memorial to soldiers who had given their lives for their country.
Gilmour has not said which of the charges he admits.
He was remanded on bail until Friday 8 July – when his final exams will have finished. He is then due to be sentenced.
