Fancy a varied and interesting night out in town?

Fred Hills

Fred Hills

There’s terrific drumming; fusion of soul, jazz, folk, funk and reggae and a spoken word artist on offer at The Brunswick (located at 1 Holland Road, Hove, BN3 1JF Tel: 01273 733984) on Thursday 13th December.

If you’re a sucker for really decent live drumming, then you need to be enchanted by extraordinary sound of Brighton-based musician Fred Hills. He has been working with some of the city’s finest artists over the last decade, creating bespoke, inventive beats. He has just released ‘Ketu’ which sees Fred embark on his own journey to showcase his intentions as a collaborative artist and composer.

Fred Hills

Drawing influences from The Cinematic Orchestra, White Denim, Jose Gonzales and others, Fred’s vision is to create music and sounds that defy genres and cross traditional boundaries. Whilst crafting and releasing his own compositions with producer/composer Alex Barron, Fred continues to work with established UK artists Ellie Ford, Michael Baker & Jinnwoo on their endeavours, with releases and UK/EU tours planned throughout 2018/19.

You can download and/or stream ‘Ketu’ HERE and you can listen to more of Fred’s work HERE.

Fred Hills

This unique performance at The Brunswick will feature guest appearances from some of Fred’s closest musical companions. Expect an array of vibrant instruments, odd time signatures and warm atmospheric vibes.

Support for this special gig comes from two local artists – Brighton-based soul/jazz songwriter Khanyisa and spoken-word legend Spliff Richard.

Khanyisa

Fresh from a little town in Essex, Khanyisa is a soulful singer/songwriter mixing a fusion of soul, jazz, folk, funk and reggae. Her songs exude tenderness, sincerity and sass leaving the audience inspired. Definitely a treat for the ears and one to watch on the Brighton scene.

Watch Khanyisa HERE.

Spliff Richard

Spliff Richard has been around the Brighton spoken word scene for 12 years. His words range in subject, but the key thing is that most of them rhyme, and even if you don’t like them, it’s all over pretty quick. So you can surely expect rapid, rhyming, rambling, red-eyed rhetoric flying out of a mouth located just above Brighton’s silliest beard.
