Muncie Girls announce rescheduled Brighton gig date
The Muncie Girls

‘Isn’t Life Funny’, sometimes things just don’t seem to go your way. You know, things like you return back to your car at the supermarket car park to find that someone has let their trolley run into your bodywork and left a nice dent. The dog slipped his lead and ran off after some rabbits and now you can’t find him. You unfortunately lose your passport whilst abroad and there is a delay in getting back to dear old Blighty. Come on we’ve all done it!

Muncie Girls

The rather wonderful Exeter indie/punk rock trio Muncie Girls know exactly what I’m talking about. Sadly they were unable to perform their much anticipated gig at the Green Door Store on Thursday 6th December, due to unforeseen circumstances, heard to be referred to as ‘Passportgate’. But hey, here’s the absolutely fab news……….they have rescheduled their date with the folks of Brighton and will be appearing at the Green Door Store on Thursday 25th April 2019. Those who bought a ticket for the original show from the Ladyfuzz website or Dice.fm and DIDN’T opt for a refund, then your ticket will be valid for this new 25th April show.

The Muncie Girls latest album ‘ Fixed Ideals’

So who are the Muncie Girls? Well in our opinion they have released one of the Top 50 Albums 2018 when they unleashed their ‘Fixed Ideas’ platter on 31st August. It is packed with thirteen superb compositions, all of which are shorter than four minutes long, although if the bubble bath bubbles had kept going another seven seconds, then they would have had a four minuter on their latest lush album.

Muncie Girls – I think they are trying to tell us something!

Lande Hekt (bass, rhythm guitar, vocals), Dean McMullen (lead guitar), and Luke Ellis (drums) are the Muncie Girls. They are signed to their hometown (Exeter) label Specialist Subject Records, and their debut album ‘From Caplan to Belsize’ came out in 2016, which contain ten corkers, and yes you guessed it, none of them get to four minutes in length.

Lande and Dean formed the band in 2010 while attending Exeter College. They played their first gigs at the Cavern Club, their local rock venue, and became very involved in the underground DIY Punk scene. The band put on their own shows, as well as fundraising events, and Lande started a music workshop for women under the name ‘School of Frock’. Ellis joined in 2012, solidifying the lineup.

Muncie Girls

The band are certainly spreading their word as they have played gigs in the USA, Australia, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany as well as touring all over the UK.

I’m rather partial to their sound, to me they can easily be compared with Colour Me Wednesday, Happy Accidents and to a degree Caves, Blondie and The Primitives. See what you think, have a listen HERE.

If you haven’t already purchased your ticket for their Brighton concert, then grab yours HERE.
