Fire crews are offering the public a lift on Hove seafront today (Sunday 21 August) at the annual 999 event.
With a warm and sunny day forecast, the chance to go 100ft up on the aerial ladder platform should afford some spectacular views of Brighton and Hove and the surrounding area.
Rescue crews will show how they cut people out of crashed cars.
Firefighters will also show how quickly chip pan fires can start and spread – and how to deal with them as well as how to prevent them.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service fire investigation dogs will demonstrate how they follow the scent of accelerants when a fire is started deliberately.
And Sussex Police dog handlers will also show their dogs at work in a special display.
The free 999 day on Hove Lawns, by the Peace Statue, will also include the Coastguard, RNLI Brighton lifeboat crew members and South East Coast Ambulance Service.
The event runs from 10am to 4pm and is expected to attract big crowds on a day when temperatures of up to 70F (21C) are likely to draw thousands to the beach.
The emergency services event is being formally opened by Brighton crime writer Peter James.
