Falmer academy pupils achieve school's best ever GCSE results

Pupils and staff were celebrating at the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy (BACA) in Falmer this morning as youngsters picked up their GCSE results slips.

The proportion of pupils passing five or more GCSEs, including maths and English, with A* – C grades rose 64 per cent.

BACA principal Philomena Hogg said that she was proud of her students and Rod Aldridge, chairman of the academy’s sponsor, the Aldridge Foundation, added his praise.

Overall 84 out of 116 pupils – or 73 per cent – passed five or more GCSEs with A* – C grades up from 58 per cent last year – the final year of Falmer High School.

And 42 pupils – or 36 per cent – passed five or more GCSEs, including maths and English, with A* – C grades compared with 22 per cent last year.

Mrs Hogg said: “These are record-breaking results.

“I am immensely proud of what we have been able to achieve.

“The students have worked so hard, as have our staff, and the results are there for all to see.

“This will give everyone a massive boost as we prepare to start a new school year in our brand new home.”

Mr Aldridge said: “These results today are the highest ever in the history of the school.

“They are a reflection of the hard work put in by the students and the team at BACA.

“This is tremendous news and demonstrates that there are no limits to what we can achieve together.”

The academy opened last September on site of the old Falmer High School and will move into its new £25 million premises in a fortnight.
