Detectives investigating yesterday’s stabbing in Brighton are appealing for help in trying to track down the murder weapon.

A 51-year-old man was knifed in the hallway to flats in Elm Grove shortly after 10am, and died soon afterwards.

Elm Grove was sealed off for hours yesterday as forensic officers combed the area. Detectives were also seen going through bins in Lewes Road.

But this morning, they issued an appeal for help in finding the weapon.

Leading the enquiry, Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles said: “We are trying to piece together the events which led to the death of this middle-aged man at 67 Elm Grove. He was stabbed several times in the chest and side of his body.

“We have spoken to a number of witnesses who have assisted us in putting together exactly what happened and why. I would urge anyone who saw a confrontation on the doorstep of 67 Elm Grove, Brighton, yesterday to come forward and help us find the killer.

“We urgently need to trace the murder weapon. I believe that a knife has been used to commit this murder. Should anyone find a blood stained knife, please call us. It is vital that we trace this weapon.”

Cassandra Hoskins took this picture of Elm Grove yesterday morning and posted it on Twitter

Two men were arrested yesterday, one at the scene and one shortly afterwards in Worthing. One of these has now been released and is being treated as a significant witness to the events.

I live in Elm Grove for the past 2 LONG years and I can’t wait to move out. There is always problems from Monday to Sunday, from early morning to night.
People stealing motorbikes, bikes, breaking cars mirrors, fights… you name it! and POLICE no where near guarding Elm Grove.

I am totally sick of Elm Grove’s constant crime.

    thanks
