Two Brighton and Hove police officers have been charged with speeding while on duty and are due to appear before magistrates.

PC David Muddle and PC Robert Watts will appear at Eastbourne Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 11 November,

They were charged with driving their marked police cars too fast along the A27 Brighton bypass between the Devil’s Dyke and Falmer on Sunday 5 September.

Sussex Police said that the two officers were followed by an unmarked police motorcyclist.

The traffic officer stopped the cars, established that they were not responding to an emergency and reported the drivers for prosecution.

PC Muddle is a response officer based at Crowhurst Road in Hollingbury, Brighton.

PC Watts is a response officer based at Holland Road in Hove.

They are also subject to internal disciplinary proceedings.
