The long-awaited trial of Victor and Henry Mears for misleading thousands of customers into paying for a winter wonderland has started.

Prosecutors believe the Brighton pair made more than £1m by charging up to 10,000 customers £30 for entry to the Lapland New Forest attraction in 2008.

When families arrived, they were faced with little more than a broken ice rink, Bristol Crown Court heard today.

Victor Mears, of Selsfield Drive, and Henry Mears, of Coombe Road, deny five charges of engaging in a commercial practice which is a misleading action and three charges of engaging in a commercial practice which is a misleading omission.
