A brawl near Brighton Police Station has landed 12 men with a summons.

Nearly 30 people called Sussex Police about the mass punch-up in Grove Hill, Brighton, saying that between 50 and 100 men were involved.

Sixteen were arrested while two were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton to be treated for facial injuries.

The fight is believed to have involved supposed Brighton and Tottenham Hotspur football fans.

Two Portslade men and another from Hove are among the 12 who have been bailed to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 5 May.

Charged with violent disorder, they are

  • Ben Goodwin, 21, of Foredown Drive, Portslade
  • Jamie Lowe, 43, of Mile Oak Road, Portslade
  • Harvey Siney, 18, of Margery Road, Hove
  • Matthew Cummins, 33, of Wantley Hill Estate, Henfield
  • David Prowse, 33 of Sompting Road, Lancing
  • Matthew Clayton, 24, of Highdown Drive, Littlehampton
  • Stuart McCullough, 21 of Seaton Road, Wick, Littlehampton
  • Martin Asli, 47, of Greenhaven Drive, Thamesmead, London
  • Dante Lauder-Hawkins, 21, of Exmoor Street, Ladbroke Grove, London
  • Steven White, 44, of Church Street, Edmonton, London
  • Steven Davison, 30, of Algers Mead, Loughton, Essex;
  • Matthew Keech, 27, of Bells Hill, Barnet, Hertfordshire

Keech has also been charged with having cannabis.

The other four men who were arrested in relation to the fight – at about 4.30pm on Saturday 31 July last year – have been released and do not face charge.

Three of the four are from Brighton, aged 19, 22 and 32. The fourth is a 34-year-old from Frimley in Surrey.

The 32-year-old Brighton man was also alleged to have had a Class A drug but will not be prosecuted.
