The site of a proposed ice rink in Brighton can be used for coach parking, planning officials have decided.
Planning permission has been granted for a temporary coach park for 30 coaches at the Black Rock site.
Martin Randall, head of planning and public protection at Brighton and Hove City Council, said: “This is good news for coach drivers as it will provide them with a much more convenient area to park and alleviate coach parking problems elsewhere.
“It is also good news for this area of the seafront which is currently lying derelict.
“The planning permission is temporary for two years as in the long term the site is earmarked for the indoor arena and ice rink.
“The council remains committed to develop the site for a leisure-based facility as described in the city’s Local Plan.”
Currently there are 42 short-stay coach parking facilities in Madeira Drive but this does not meet demand during the busy summer tourist season.
Until now overflow coaches have had to park in nearby streets which has particularly affected the Roedean area.
Over the coming months the council will try to identify a suitable site for a permanent short stay coach park.
