A 21-year-old Brighton man has been charged with robbery after a woman’s handbag was snatched on Monday evening (19 September).
Gabriel Murphy, of Coombe Road, Brighton, was charged yesterday evening (Tuesday 20 September).
He was released on bail and is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 13 October.
The charge follows an incident just before 8.20pm on Monday when a 33-year-old local woman was walking down Milner Road, off Lewes Road, on her way to work as a cleaner.
A man came up behind her and snatched her bag.
He ran off but the incident was spotted by a 41-year old man from Brighton who was passing by
The man chased the offender and grabbed him within yards of the incident, returning the bag to the woman.
Sussex Police said that officers arrived within minutes and arrested the suspect.
