The fresh snowfall has led to school closures on the eastern edge of Brighton and Hove.
Rudyard Kipling Primary School and Nursery in Woodingdean has announced that it will be closed today (Wednesday 23 January) as has Woodingdean Primary School.
Downs View School in Woodingdean and Downs View Link College in Surrenden Road, Brighton, will be closed too, as will the Cedar Centre Special School and the Lynchet Close Brighton and Hove Pupil Referral Unit, both in Hollingdean.
And the Bilingual Primary School Brighton and Hove has also decided to close. Snow was falling there at 7am and the approach road was already covered in ice, making access unsafe for the buses used by most pupils.
Neighbouring BACA, the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy, which serves the surrounding estates, will be open.
Two other primary schools which are vulnerable to the snow and ice, Coldean and West Blatchington, are open today.
Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Hove is also open today. It closed yesterday, blaming a gas leak on site at the same time that the French factory gas leak could be smelt all over the area.
Hertford Junior School will open at 9.30am, Carden Primary School will open at 9.45am and Cherry Tree Nursery in Hollingdean will open at 10am.
The Met Office said that the last snow flurries would die out this morning with temperatures rising at the weekend along with heavy rain on Saturday evening.
