Three people were taken to hospital after breathing in smoke when a kitchen caught fire in Portslade early this morning (Thursday 18 July).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service crews from Hove spent about an hour tackling the fire in Eastbrook Road, Portslade, which was reported at about 1.10am.
Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for hot spots after dousing the fire and they ventilated the smokelogged property.
The blaze is believed to have started accidentally.
Crew manager Andy Baldwin said: “Having working smoke alarms in your property will give you the earliest possible warning of a fire and valuable time for you and your family to escape safely.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind people that East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service advise that you never tackle a fire yourself.
“Our advice is get out, stay out and call 999.”
