A public meeting has been called to discuss ways people can save the Rose Hill Tavern, following the news it has been sold.
People living near the 144-year-old pub in Rose Hill Terrace with its distinctive green tiles started a petition calling on the Government’s local government minister Eric Pickles, and Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas to stop the sale of the pub two weeks ago.
Almost 400 people have currently signed the petition to date, not far shy of its target of 500 signatures – and Caroline Lucas has leant the campaign her support.
Earlier this week, owners Enterprise Inns sold the pub and the current management is now holding a series of events to mark its “final weekend” from Friday, May 16 to Sunday, May 18.
Residents will now discuss ways of ensuring its new owners, whoever they might be, do not turn it into housing but instead retain it as a pub and/or community venue.
They are particularly keen to maintain the pub’s tradition of holding street parties, and providing an occasional home to the Brighton Morris Men.
The Morrismen start their season at this venue.. This isn’t their home as such 🙂

Is there an online petition and is there a link? Don’t want to see this place become more housing

Its a great little pub this, fantastic ales, and its not been tarted up and had its character and charm ripped out like so many. Too many pubs going to the wall, they’re part of our heritage!!
