Foreign Secretary visits Hove

The Foreign Secretary William Hague visited Hove yesterday (Friday 16 May).

He was met by fellow Conservative MP Mike Weatherley, who represents Hove in the House of Commons, and a number of constituents. They were joined by Clarence Mitchell, the former BBC royal correspondent who is standing for the Conservatives in the neighbouring Brighton Pavilion constituency.

Voters were able to discuss foreign policy issues with Mr Hague, including the British response to the kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls as well as the European elections next week.

They also touched on domestic policy and a number of local issues, Mr Weatherley said.

The meeting took place at Azaro, a new Indian restaurant in Church Road, Hove, where the Gallery restaurant used to be.

Mr Weatherley said: “It was great to welcome my colleague William Hague to Hove.

“Residents were keen to discuss a number of different issues with a senior cabinet minister, particularly with the looming European elections on Thursday (22 May).

“Securing an in/out referendum is important for a lot of people in Hove and it is only by voting Conservative that this can actually be achieved.”
