The Brighton Hippodrome campaign is urging people in Brighton and Hove to dig deep and help fund detailed plans to convince investors to save the at risk theatre.

Hippodrome Brighton interiorThe theatre’s owners say it is not viable as a theatre, and have planning permission to convert it into a cinema with shops and cafes.

But the Our Brighton Hippodrome (OBH) and Save Brighton Hippodrome groups have hit back, garnering support from many sections of the theatrical community to argue that is not the case.

OBH has already produced an initial study and a draft business plan and now, it needs £25,000 to develop full architectural plans,

Launching a crowdfunding drive today, OBH says: “The popularity of live theatre is soaring, yet there’s a shortage of large scale theatres in the south east.

“Simply stopping the development is not enough. OBH was specifically formed to support a proper restoration as a large working theatre which Brighton and the south coast has lacked for many years.

“The volunteers at OBH have produced an initial study and a draft business plan including architectural plans to show how the building can be restored and operated as a profitable theatre.

“Now we need funds to complete phase two of the campaign, which will allow us to develop full architectural plans and visualisations to show public and potential partners how magnificent the restored theatre would be.”
