A track defect is expected to delay the journey home for thousands of commuters from Brighton and Hove today (Monday 13 April).
Network Rail and the train company Southern have both issued warnings on their website and through social media.
Southern said: “Trains will be delayed on their approach to Brighton today after a track defect was discovered on the southbound line.
“Network Rail has put in place a 5mph speed restriction for safety reasons.
“Repairs will take at least three hours and so they will be carried out overnight, when trains are not running.
“We apologise for the disruption.”
Earlier this afternoon Southern also said: “Severe disruption is occurring to services between London Victoria and Balham due to a signalling problem in the Clapham Junction area.”
The company said later that the problem had been fixed and that services were returning to normal.
Network Rail also warned passengers of disruption to some services from London Bridge.
Due to emergency engineering works between #Hassocks and #PrestonPark services may be delayed up to 10 minutes.
