Brighton skateboarder grabs onto back of bus to ride up hill

Skateboarder Peter Smith hitches an unofficial ride on the 22 bus

A video of a skateboarder who grabbed onto the back of a bus to hitch a ride up Elm Grove has shocked thousands of people.

(Warning – film contains strong language)

Peter Smith was filmed on his skateboard gripping onto the back of the number 22 as it travelled from Lewes Road up to the racecourse.

After being uploaded to Facebook, the video was viewed thousands of times and shared hundreds more.

Viewers reactions range from stunned amusement to strong disapproval – and Brighton and Hove Buses is firmly in the latter camp.

Managing director Martin Harris said: “This is really irresponsible and dangerous behaviour with a young person putting themselves and potentially other road users at risk if this were to go wrong and cause an accident.

“It is extremely rare and I hope no one is tempted to try such a foolhardy stunt.”

However, Mr Smith was unfazed by the dangers. He said: “Brighton is my playground. This ride wasn’t that good, I wanted the bus to go faster.

“The bus drivers don’t know I’m doing it, but sometimes cars overtake and tell the driver at his window.”

This is old news… it happened in 1985 everywhere when Back To The Future was launched. 30 years later everyone is still shocked.
