The problems started shortly after 9am, and meant trains could not run out of Brighton, but could go via Lewes.

The main line reopened at about 9.45am.

The Southern website says: “Signalling problems at Preston Park are causing delays of up to 30 minutes to trains between Brighton and Gatwick Airport.

“There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 11am.
