Police sealed off part of East Street, Brighton, while officers tried to track down a robber or robbers.

Sussex Police said that they were responding to a report that occupants at a holiday let had been robbed.

They closed part of the busy shopping street just after 5pm on Saturday afternoon (28 November).

The force said today (Monday 30 November): “As a result of their inquiries a 33-year-old Albanian man, Altin Haxhija, of St George’s Road, Brighton, was arrested and charged with a number of offences, including robbery, blackmail and possession of an imitation firearm.
“He appeared before Brighton magistrates on Monday (30 November) where he was remanded in custody to next appear on (Wednesday 23 December).”

Detective Sergeant Mors Lambert, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: “We believe others may also have been involved in offences linked to the incident in East Street and anyone who saw anything suspicious at that location is asked to come forward.”

Anyone with information can call Sussex Police on 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
