Firefighters put out a fire in a basement flat in the centre of Brighton yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 23 February).
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Two appliances from Preston Circus attended the scene in Grand Parade, Brighton, at 1.22pm.
“On arrival crews used breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.”
The also used a fan to clear the smoke after the fire was put out.
Separately, the fire service has also reiterated its advice about registering washing machines and tumble dryers with www.registermyappliance.org.uk.
The warning follows a kitchen fire in Tor Road, Peacehaven, on Sunday afternoon (21 February). The fire was started by a washing machine.
The fire service said: “A fire investigation was carried out and the cause found to be accidental, due to defective electrics.
“Residents are urged to register any household appliances purchased in the last 12 years at www.registermyappliance.org.uk to ensure the manufacturer can contact you if a safety repair is needed.”
