A student was stabbed in the North Laine this afternoon outside City College.
A manhunt was launched after the attack on the 20-year-old student in the smoking area in Pelham Street outside City College, which happened at 1.30pm.
The victim, who attends City College, was taken to the Royal Sussex Hospital after being wounded in the leg but has since been discharged.
Natalie Brown, who was passing by soon afterwards, said: “I was walking to work and there were police everywhere. Someone’s been stabbed in front of the college in broad daylight.
“It’s mayhem and they still haven’t caught him. I’ve never walked so fast!”
A police spokesman said: “A 20-year-old man has been taken to hospital in Brighton after being stabbed in the leg outside City College in Pelham Street, Brighton.
“The victim, who is described as ‘walking wounded’ was attacked outside Pelham Tower just before 1.30pm.
“A search is now under way for his attacker who is described as a man of mixed race, in his early 20s, 6′, of medium build weaing a blue anorak and blue jeans.
“Anyone who witnessed the assault or who has any other information about the incident is asked to email email@example.com or call 101 quoting serial 689 of 22/03.”
A spokesman for City College said: “We can confirm that the person taken to hospital today following an incident outside the college on Pelham Street is a current City College student.
“This person has now been discharged from hospital.
“The college is liaising with all the necessary authorities and remains open as usual.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”
